Thanks Mom!

I am getting a mother's ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS GIFT as a belated gift this year. My parents got me a cookbook but they wanted to get me something more since that was a small gift compared to what they spent on everyone else. I told Mom I needed a Misto, which is a little kitchen gadget that allows you to put your own olive oil in and spray it (instead of having to use those store-bought sprays that are bad for your health). She didn't find one in the malls when she went shopping in some larger towns over Christmas. So, she asked me if I would like to have a Mother's Helper instead! How great is that? Instead of a little $10 kitchen gadget, she is going to be paying a young teen girl who goes to the Christian school she teaches at, to come over for one afternoon each week for 7 weeks! I will have an hour and a half to sleep, run errands ALONE, or just get some stuff done while Sarah entertains the kids. Since Sarah goes to our church, Ali already knows her and really likes her. I'm just thrilled that I will have some help during the "pit hour" of the day when both kids are usually cranky and hungry and demanding when I'm trying to get supper. Maybe I'll just take a book to the library and let my Mother's Helper throw a frozen pizza in and "make" dinner!

What an incredible gift to be given in this season of great fatigue! God truly does provide and bless us when we are weary! My mom planned it so that my Mother's Helper will be here during the worst of my pregnancy nausea (which as you all know has been controlled this time around thanks to Unisom!).

By the way, Pampered Chef makes a "Misto" thing, called a Kitchen Spritzer, which is what I use.. it is great! I think it's more than $10 tho'.. :)

HI- random qustions from a random person- what fabric did you use for the inside of the diapers? it looks like polar fleece is it? is it a special kind or just your run of the mill polar fleece?
How many layers did you use for the diaper? is the doubler polar fleece as well? how many layers are your doublers?
thanks!

Allisonmn,

I don't mind random ?s from random people!

I just used regular fleece in the inside of my diapers. Whatever I had on hand and had snagged cheaply at Wal-Mart. I also searched thrift stores for old fleece baby blankets and receiving blankets. The inner pocket part of the diapers was made from flannel, whether flannel receiving blankets or just flannel I had on hand in my sewing stash. So, for each pocket diaper, you need one piece of waterproof PUL, one piece of fleece (or old terrycloth dishtowels work great too), and two pieces of flannel.

I'm not sure what "doublers" are, so if you mean the pad inserts aka soaker pads, I just sewed about 8-10 microfleece pieces together to form a soaker pad. A friend had actually given me a bunch of the microfleece pads as a baby gift last time and had cut them all out in that shape for me. So, I sewed most of them together for soaker pads. Another thing that works for soaker pads is to take a pre-fold diaper or thick burp rag, which can be found at the thrift store, and fold them into halves or thirds and stick them in the pocket diaper for soaker pad. These are nice to use since they wash and dry easier than the super thick ones.

Hope this helped you out!
