Modesty is a statement of purpose, that I am sanctified (set apart) unto the Lord and His plan for me, and when He blesses me with a marriage partner, I am prepared to be committed, and a blessing. Modesty involves both dress and spirit/demeanor, a gracious spirit, rooted in faith. When a man can trust a woman to be set apart and devoted, not a flirt or distracted into many pleasures, the man can have an easier time learning the path of holiness because she is not a stumblingblock to him. Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD. Proverbs 31:11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 1 Corinthians 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
I have seen the "I can wear whatever I want" attitude so much lately, it makes me sick. How selfish! I want to make SURE that what I wear does not offend a struggling brother, nor give a feast to the eyes of the unregenerate man. Our dress is indeed an outward display of the beautiful work God is doing in us!
